HAAS OM1A CNC

Device use type: Active and Fee for service

Location: 5-055 Katz Group Centre

Description:

Computer Numerical Control (CNC) milling is a machining process that utilizes computerized controls to manage the movement and operation of multi-point rotary cutting tools. As the tools rotate and move across the surface of the workpiece, they slowly remove excess material to achieve the desired shape and size.

Hourly Use Information

Users must be trained to use the CNC machine. CNC operation training can typically be done in 2 hours, this does not include training on CAM programming if needed. CNC Training involves:

  • WIPS (Wireless Intuitive Probing System) Training

    • Work Offset Probing

    • Tool Offset Probing

  • Tool Loading and Unloading

  • Interface

  • Workholding

A PC is available for CAM use with fees below. The preferred CAD/CAM program is Fusion 360. Machine and Tool profiles are loaded into the PC for ease of use. HSM Advisor is available for feeds and speeds. CAM Training is avaibile.

For a part to be CNC milled it must be drawn in CAD software such as Fusion 360, Solidworks, Sketchup, etc. If a CAD file cannot be provided by the requester a CAD model can be made at a CAD design rate starting at $50/hr. This includes time to discuss the specifics of the part to be designed in CAD. If a CAD model is provided, CAM (Computer Assisted Manufacturing) paths must still be programmed.

If the part requires specialized tools to produce an additional fee will be charged, shop supplies will be charged for all jobs, and they cover the cost of consumables used in the machining process.
